Over the last week I've had the following exchange more times than I can actually count. I'm mainly posting this post as a public information announcement, so, should you ever meet me, you don't ask me the same bloody stupid question.

Me: I'm a vegetarian.

Them: Do you eat fish?

I know Kurt Cobain claimed that "It's OK to eat fish, cos they don't have any feelings."

He did also blow his own brains out. Remember that.

  1. Oh god - I get this all the time - particularly from my mother. Drives me insane.

  2. Yup, relate to that - especially in restaurants, which considering they are in the food business is pretty rubbish. It might be worth mentioning Kurt's demise to people who claim to be veggie - but eat fish. Boom! Stay away from fish - and guns.

  3. Pray do not get Lady Bracknell started on this nonsense.

She seethes with rage each time a man she knows describes himself as "a fish vegetarian".

Vegetarians do not consume flesh. If one eats fish, one is not a vegetarian: one merely abstains from eating the flesh of mammals.

Lady Bracknell does not eat anything which had a mother.

  4. OMG! Not only a fellow Brit blogger, but a fellow veggie! YEA! I love finding online veggies! :)lol I keep having this very discussion with everybody over my vegetarianism.

Fish are living, breathing things that are killed to be eaten, hence y I don't eat them. I kind of think that it defeats the object.
